Solhem
A one hectare English style garden on the seashore in the Porvoo archipelago, mainly laid to lawn with perennial beds, spring bulbs and newly planted fruit trees.
The house and garden of Solhem was first built in 1908 along with the barn and cottages. Since retiring 10 years ago we have been establishing the garden that exists today. The plot is surrounded by forest especially tall pine trees and on the south boundary the sea.
As a Brit my knowledge is only of making gardens in England so the style at Solhem tends to be formal. The kitchen garden and rear flower beds are fully fenced to keep out the many animals that roam the island.
